Falling ill abroad can be daunting, especially if there’s a language barrier or your client’s unsure where they would be able to find medical help. GP on Demand is there to provide reassurance when your client needs it most.
What is GP on Demand?
GP on Demand provides 24/7 remote access to a UK GP via telephone or video* appointments. Appointments take place via the GP on Demand app which will allow your clients to book a time that is convenient to them.
All doctors available via GP on Demand are practicing GPs who are qualified by the NHS and can provide reassurance, advice, and diagnosis like any local NHS GP would. 70% of consultations with GP on Demand result in effective diagnosis and no further medical contact is required. Whether it’s advice on treatment or over-the-counter medicine, the doctors on GP on Demand are there to provide reassurance when your clients need it.
The GP on Demand service is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year, giving your clients peace of mind regardless of the time of year or even time of day! The remote GP will call them within 15 minutes of their scheduled appointment time and can even arrange for prescriptions to be delivered to your home address in the UK should they be required (subject to an additional charge).
*Video appointments are available 7 days a week between 8am and 10pm
Why do my clients need GP on Demand?
If your clients are abroad and need to get in contact with their GP, they’re likely to encounter the same problems as they would if they were in the UK. Local GP surgeries are burdened by long wait times and limited availability, making it difficult to speak to your doctor. Unless your client is multi-lingual, it is likely they may experience a language barrier in the country they’re visiting. How do my clients use GP on Demand?
Once your clients have purchased a Voyager Plus Travel Insurance policy, they will receive details on how to register for the GP on Demand service. It is best if they do this BEFORE they travel as this will help them avoid the stress of having to sign up when they are needing to use the service.
When your clients have registered, they can download the GP on Demand app which will allow them to book either a telephone or video consultation.
What can my clients talk to the doctor about?
The doctors available via this service essentially act as a GP, so if it’s something your client would ask their GP, they can ask the doctor available on GP on Demand.
The GP on Demand doctors can cover a range of subjects, providing advice on chronic disease management, minor illness, acute presentation of serious clinical conditions, and general questions about prescriptions, travel, and lifestyle.
What should my clients do in an emergency?
GP on Demand is Not an Emergency Service.
If your one of your clients has a medical emergency whilst travelling, that requires immediate medical attention, then they should contact the local emergency services. They should also contact the Emergency Assistance number in their policy wording as soon as feasibly possible.
How many times can my clients use GP on Demand?
Use of GP on Demand is unlimited during your client’s period of insurance. This means that whether it’s early in the morning, the middle of the day, or late at night, they have access to a qualified, practicing NHS doctor 24 hours a day.
